SL Author Shares Lessons From His Youth in Hawaii

Saitia Faaifo moved to San Leandro from Hawaii 20 years ago, but he said the lessons he learned growing up on the island never ceased to help him succeed in his daily life.

Faaifo, also known as “Dr. Aloha,” has written three books on the motivational powers of respect. His latest, Seven Letters to Live by: RESPECT has just come out.

4H Photographers Exhibit Their Work at Main Library

The photographs of Redwood 4H photographers will be on display at the San Leandro Main Library from Dec. 2 until the end of the month.

The Redwood 4H photography group includes members from 9 to 17-years-old, both interested amateur first year members as well as veterans who have earned blue ribbons at the Alameda County Fair. For an opportunity to meet the artists, a reception will be held Dec. 5 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the library.

The California Conservatory Theater has a new show opening tonight, Tribute, directed by Rebecca Ennals.

Tribute is the story of Scottie Templeton (Louis Parnell), a charming, but irresponsible public relations man with bad health.

Scottie’s one gift is his ability to make people happy, and in his last days he tries to reconcile with the one person he has made miserable, his son, Jud (Aaron Wilton), whom he abandoned after he divorced Jud’s mother.

CCT Opens 30th Season with Neil Simon Show

The California Conservatory Theater opens its 30th season next week with a production of the musical They’re Playing Our Song.

Neil Simon and Marvin Hamlisch created the play, which hit Broadway in 1978. This year all of CCT’s shows will come from the year it opened.
