Business is Booming for BART
By Jim Knowles

There’s a lot of gloomy talk about the economy but business has never been better for BART.

More people than ever are commuting on Bay Area Rapid Transit, said Bob Franklin, a member of the BART board of directors. But the increase in passengers – up to 380,000 riders a day – is presenting other problems for BART.

“Daily ridership is up now,” Franklin said. “People in some areas are fighting for a BART station, but here in San Leandro, you have two stations.”

Volvo S80 Blends Technology, Tradition
By Steve Schaefer
Volvo’s flagship sedan, the S80, got redone for the 2007 model year, but it took until now to get a date with one — a beautiful 2008 model. It was worth the wait.

By now, the Volvo-as-box image has faded from public perception. When the first S80 arrived years ago, it was a revolution, with a return to traditional “shoulders” but otherwise a modern, even daring, approach to sedan design, with a laid-back rear window, tapered rear deck and tucked-in side panels. The blunt, medallion-wearing grille was squeezed down to a slender strip. The same fresh approach was applied to the interior, as well.

By Mark Zeme, M.D.
Because pediatricians have been reluctant to recommend tonsillectomies during the past few decades, parents often assume that their young children will outgrow tonsil problems.

Unfortunately, not all children do, and when infections and obstruction recur in teens or even adults, the tonsils need to be taken out.

By Darien Behravan, D.O.
Because persistent pain is a common experience among older adults, it is often dismissed as a normal part of aging. As the American Geriatrics Society (AGS) points out, however, pain is neither normal nor healthy, and complaints about pain should never be minimized or passively accepted.
