A man was shot in the torso and another man has been arrested for attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon after a fight at Pagano’s sports bar escalated into a shooting early on Sunday morning.
Several 911 callers reported shots fired just after 1 a.m. at the bar on the 14000 block of Washington Avenue. Arriving officers found the victim, Juanquin Esver, in the passenger seat of a car that was leaving the parking lot, police said.
Esver, 24, had been shot once in the upper torso and was taken to Eden Hospital via ambulance for treatment and is expected to survive his injury.
Witnesses at the scene told officers that the shooting took place just outside the bar and described a suspect who had fled on foot northbound on Washington Avenue, said Sgt. Bob Sanchez of the San Leandro police.
About 30 minutes later, cops found a man matching the suspect’s description walking in the area of Floresta Boulevard and Del Monte Way, about a mile from Pagano’s.
Witnesses identified Dario Santana Trevino, 29, as the shooter and he was arrested.
The shooting apparently stemmed from an altercation that started inside the bar, Sanchez said. Trevino and Esver clashed after getting involved in a fight between two women who were friends of theirs.
“The guys didn’t know each other prior to the fight, but it appears that they jumped in to defend their friends,” Sanchez said.
Trevino is being held without bail at Santa Rita jail in Dublin. He was arraigned Tuesday on charges of attempted homicide, assault with a deadly weapon, and possession of a controlled substance.
