BASS, Donald Barrett Bass (September 18, 1925 – June 3, 2012), a 48-year resident of San Leandro, was 86 years old. His wife, Hetty, preceded him in death by 8 years. They had been married 40 years. Don was in the Army and went to the Philippines in 1945. After that, he worked 38 years for Railway Express Company. Don was a great outdoors man. He loved fishing and hunting; and, when he was younger, he was a licensed pilot and loved to fly. He liked to walk at Oyster Point in San Leandro, and enjoyed talking to the people there. Don thought the world of his neighbors and often did them favors, and they did the same for him. They will also miss him very much. Don leaves behind his nephew, Richard Bear (Gale); grand-nephew, Jeffrey (Lisa), and their children, Ashley, Nicholas and Chad; grand-niece, Lori Hall (Brian), and their 2 boys, Dominic and Dante; and niece, Karen Bunter (Richard), and their daughter. Don is also survived by his stepson, Gary Kukus; and step-niece, Jeanette Tilton, and family. Don will be missed by all who knew him. At Don’s wishes, there will be no services and his ashes will be spread at sea.

BREWER, Louise E., of San Leandro, passed away at her home on Sunday, June 3, 2012, at age 95. A private family viewing and graveside service is scheduled at Chapel of the Chimes in Hayward.

BROWN, Bernelda Roslyn, a resident of Union City, died peacefully on Tuesday, May 29, 2012, with her husband of 66 years, Stanley, by her side. She was 88. Bernelda was a native of Nebraska, born in Grand Island, and grew up in Loup City. The family moved to California when she was in her teens. She was an active member of the First United Methodist Church of San Leandro for almost 70 years. She was an active member of the United Methodist Women and headed up the Labels for Education collections every year. She was a volunteer at the church in many capacities until shortly before her death. Nelda was a member of the “Aces and Laces” and “Skirts and Flirts” Square Dance Clubs. She was also a member of Eastern Star for over 50 years. In addition to her husband, Stanley of San Lorenzo, she is survived by their children, Donald of San Leandro and Diane of Klamath, Calif., as well as many cousins and friends. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, June 23, at 11 a.m. at First United Methodist Church, 1600 Bancroft Ave., in San Leandro. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations in Nelda’s memory be made to the First United Methodist Church of San Leandro. COLACINO, Domenic “Tony,” a San Leandro resident passed away on Saturday, June 9, 2012, at age 80. He served his country in the US Air Force in Korea. He was an industrial rubber salesman until his retirement at age 72. His greatest joy was as “Coach Tony” instructing youths at Manor Bowl. DECKER, Jerry, passed away on Saturday, June 2, 2012, in Arkansas, at age 71. Husband to Helen Decker,  Jerry lived and worked for many years in San Leandro. He will be missed.

DISTOR, Lourdes A., a San Leandro resident for 38 years, passed away on Friday, June 8, 2012, at age 78. She was born in the Philippines and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Home Economics. She was married to Fortunio Distor for 45 years until his death. Lourdes held numerous positions at The North Face until retiring after 30 years as the Warranty Manager. Lourdes was a devoted and hard-working mother of three. She prided herself on disciplining her children, and guiding and forming their personalities. She set high standards for them and shielded them as much as possible from any distractions that could take them away from their desired goals. Lourdes loved her garden and had a passion for sewing. She loved people and enjoyed being surrounded by friends and family. Her home was a center for family gatherings. She loved conversing with people and many found her charming. All that were with her in the end showed her much love. She is survived by her children, Leonil and Debra Distor, Jocelynn and Gary Copsey, and Rowena and Glen Davenport; her siblings, Adelaida Cuevas, Antonio Anit, Rolando Anit, Edita Pirante, Teresita Gonzalez, Leandro Anit and Efipania Leyva; and a host of nephews and nieces. Viewing will be at 10 a.m., followed by a memorial at 12 noon, on Saturday, June 16, at Jess C. Spencer Mortuary in Castro Valley. Burial to follow at Lone Tree Cemetery in Hayward.

ELIZONDO, Mary, a resident of San Leandro, passed away on Tuesday, June 5, 2012, at age 87. The Funeral Liturgy was held on June 13, at St. John’s Catholic Church in San Lorenzo. Burial took place at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Hayward. Santos-Robinson Mortuary handled the arrangements.

LOURA, Rosa P., a resident of San Leandro since 1959, passed away on Tuesday, June 12, 2012, at age 97. Visitation will be held from noon to 5 p.m. today, June 14, at Santos Robinson Mortuary, 160 Estudillo Ave., in San Leandro. A Rosary will begin at 7 p.m. at Church of the Assumption, 1100 Fulton Ave. in San Leandro. A final viewing  at 10:30 a.m. Friday will be followed by the Funeral Liturgy at 11 a.m. at Church of the Assumption.

MORGAN, Clover Marie, a resident of San Leandro, passed away on Friday, June 8, 2012, at age 60. A celebration of her life will be on Wednesday, June 20, beginning at 11 a.m. at Santos-Robinson Mortuary, 160 Estudillo Ave., San Leandro. (510) 483-0123.

SANZO, Estella M., a resident of San Leandro, passed away at the age of 81. A chapel service celebrating her life will be held Thursday, June 14, at Santos-Robinson Mortuary beginning at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at Chapel of the Memories in Oakland. SCHLYTTER, Betty Lou, of San Leandro, passed away in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida on Wednesday, June 6, 2012, at age 81.

VILLALOBOS, Eva Mari, of San Lorenzo, passed away on Tuesday, June 5, 2012, at age 75. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, June 15, at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, followed by celebration of her life at her home.
