CURRY, Narcisa Louise, a 62-year resident of Castro Valley, passed away on Monday, July 16, 2012, at age 91. Interment will be at Chapel of the Chimes in Oakland. A memorial service will be announced.
HOMER, Dolores (Dee), of Castro Valley, passed away on Friday, July 20, 2012, at age 88. A graveside service only will be held at 11 a.m. tomorrow, July 26, at Lone Tree Cemetery at 24591 Fairview Ave. in Hayward. Arrangements were made by Jess C. RAGEN, Robert (Bob) Appleby, Electronics Pioneer, resident of Hayward, died surrounded by family Friday, July 20, 2012, three days short of his 84th birthday. He is survived by his wife of 60 years and high school sweetheart, Rosemary; daughter, Debra Coffman, her husband, Tom, and their children, Chelsea and Kyle; daughter, Pam McMackin, her husband, Don, and their son, Ken; and daughter, Sue Ragen, her husband, Scott Muldavin, and their daughters, Maureen and Julia. He was born in Oakland and graduated from UC Berkeley. After serving in the Air Force, he began a lifelong career as an electrical engineer, where he became a pioneer in the burgeoning electronics field. Bob holds over 80 patents awarded during his work as Director of R&D for Friden and Singer, and as Senior Project Engineer at Xerox. He retired from Xerox R&D in 1990. He is responsible for the development of the first commercial electronic calculator — the Friden 130, which has been displayed at the Smithsonian. He loved family gatherings, water skiing and fixing stuff. To Bob, his most important accomplishment was being a great husband, dad, “Grampa” and father-in-law. He will be truly missed. Viewing at Holy Angels Sorensen Chapel, 1140 B St., in Hayward on Friday, July 27, from 5 to 8:30 p.m., with Funeral Services at 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 28. RAMOS, Walter Leonard, who lived in Castro Valley for the last 50 years, passed away at Eden Hospital on Tuesday, July 17, 2012, following a sudden acute illness. He was 90. A native of Oakland, Mr. Ramos was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. He retired as senior civil engineer for pipeline design for the East Bay Municipal Utility District following a 35-year career.
