GREEN, Jimmy Ray, of Castro Valley, passed away on Thursday, July 19, 2012, at age 73. A native of Haskell, Texas, Mr. Green came to California with his family during the early 1950s. He was a 1956 graduate of San Lorenzo High School. After a successful career as a working millwright, and being elected to a variety of local union offices, Mr. Green was elected to the position of Business Manager Local No. 102. In 1982 he was elected Executive Secretary Treasurer of the Bay Counties District Council of Carpenters, a position he held until his retirement in 1997. He was a skilled negotiator and under his leadership, the Carpenter’s Union and its Signatory Employers have not had an industry strike since 1984. He established the United Labor Bank, the Carpenter’s Annuity Program, and was chairman of the Carpenter’s Pension Fund. He served the State of California on both the Health and Safety Workers Compensation Commission and the California Citizen’s Compensation Commission, both gubernatorial appointments. A memorial mass was held Aug.1 at Transfiguration Catholic Church, 4000 E. Castro Valley Blvd., Castro Valley.
MARTINI, Frank H., passed away on Tuesday, July 3, 2012, at age 50. Frank was a resident of Las Vegas but had lived and attended school in Castro Valley. His life ended tragedy by a hit and run drunk driver. Services to be held on Friday, August 10 at 1 p.m. at Holy Angeles Chapel at the Holy Sepulchre Cemetery at 1051 Harder Road in Hayward 510-537-6600.
MELINO, Lorraine J., who lived in Castro Valley for 65 years, passed away on Friday, July 27, 2012, at age 90. A homemaker, Mrs. Melino was a longtime member of the Castro Valley Women’s Club. She enjoyed travels with her husband, reading and playing bridge. No services were planned at this time.
