Born in Scotts Bluff, Nebraska, Ms. Muehl was raised from infancy in New Mexico and considered herself a New Mexican native. Ms. Muehl moved to Richmond, Calif. to help family in 1942. She graduated from Richmond High School that same year and later became a Rosie the Riveter at the Richmond Shipyard. After the war, she became a Pacific Bell pbx phone operator. Diablo Woman’s Club, Fleet Reserve Association, California PTA and was an outstanding Girl Scout leader and Cub Scout Den Mother. She was community service minded and volunteered numerous hours to the Muscular Dystrophy telethon, the Adult Literacy Project and various political campaigns through out the 1970s and 1980s. A lover of animals, she would often get up extra early to “cook the cats some oatmeal or eggs.” While known among family and friends as being a “spitfire,” Ms. Muehl leaves a legacy of strength, unconditional love and support.
