Young golfers from Northern California came to the Monarch Bay Golf Club in San Leandro last Thursday for the annual tournament that started in 1963.
Jimmy Castles of Cupertino shot a 68 and Elizabeth Shultz of Lafayette shot a 74 to be crowned the overall winners of the San Leandro City Junior Golf Championship, one of the biggest youth golf tourneys in the state.
The golfers hit the links on a glorious day by the marina as Steven Sunwoo Choi of Dublin won the Boys 16-17 division, shooting a 70.
Xin Fang of Menlo Park won the Boys 15-17 division with a score of 75, and Matt Lloyd of San Jose won the Boys 12-13 division with a 67.
Michelle Xie of Palo Alto won the Girls 12-14 division with a 78.
The golfers 11 years old and under played 9 holes on the par-3 Marina Course where Aashish Achanta of Cupertino won the Boys 10-11 division with a 33, and Sabrina Iqbal of San Jose won the Girls 10-11 division also with a 33.
Ian Gillgan of Corte Madera won the Boys 7-9 division with a 33, and Jaqueline Ha of San Ramon won the Girls 7-9 division with a 36.
