15th Annual Senior Resource Fair

The 15th Annual Senior Resource Fair will be held on Friday, Sept. 14, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Senior Community Center, 13909 East 14th St. in San Leandro. Learn about services available to seniors regarding housing, health and wellness, transportation, financial planning, leisure activities, and much more during this free information-packed day. Over 60 agencies will be on-hand to provide information and answer your questions.  Open to anyone interested in issues that affect seniors. This year’s event theme is ‘Bright Lights of Broadway’. Free admission, raffle prizes and health checks! Recycle fluorescent lamps (no tubes), batteries, expired medications, mercury thermometers, used eyeglasses, hearing aids and cell phones.

St. Leander’s Family Festival

St. Leander’s Church is having its 58th Annual Family Festival on Saturday, Sept. 15, from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. at 575 W. Estudillo Avenue (across the street from St. Leander Church). There will be game booths, food and drink, live entertainment, raffle prizes, a Ms. St. Leander event, and a barbecued chicken dinner served from 4 to 7 p.m. Adults $12, children (ages 12 and under) $6. There will be a gala preview and sale of used books, and the ever-popular “Granny’s Attic” on Friday, Sept. 14, from 5 to 8 p.m. A $3 donation at the door includes wine and cheese. Police vs. Firefighters Softball Game

The San Leandro police will battle the Alameda County Fire Department in the “Guns & Hoses” game on Saturday, Sept. 15, at 3 p.m. at Thrasher Park, 1300 Davis St., to benefit George Mark Children’s House. Celtic Music Concert

Come to a free concert of Celtic music at Hayward Memorial Park, 24176 Mission Blvd. in Hayward, on Sunday, Sept. 16, from 1 to 5 p.m. Enjoy an afternoon of Celtic music, dancing and singing, featuring music from Scotland, Ireland and Cape Breton. Bring a picnic lunch, play chess with chess masters, and kids can create chalk art, sponsored by the Hayward Area Recreation Dept. and Hayward Odd Fellows Sycamore Lodge 129.

CARH Fashion Show Fundraiser

CARH, Inc. celebrates 40 years of serving local adults and children with intellectual disabilities by hosting its Annual Fashion Show Fundraiser with a 1940s styled theme on Saturday, Sept. 15 at 11:30 a.m. at the Resurrection Greek Orthodox Church, 20104 Center St., Castro Valley. Radio Host and DJ, Steve Fox, from KKIQ 101.7 will again emcee the show, featuring CARH’s special needs models dressed in exciting 1940s inspired thrift fashions. A fabulous full buffet brunch will be served along with no host champagne cocktails, a silent auction, raffle and entertainment provided by Big Band Songstress “Lady G,” Gloria Duarte, singing popular tunes from the big band era. Magic Show at the Main Library

Brain Scott will perform a family magic show on Wednesday, Sept. 19, at 7 p.m. at the San Leandro Main Library, 300 Estudillo Ave. Brian’s performance will feature comical magic, audience participation, and surprising mind-reading demonstrations that will have you rubbing your eyes in disbelief. San Leandro Creek Cleanup Day

The Friends of San Leandro Creek are having an Creek Cleanup Day at Root Park on Saturday, Sept. 22, from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Volunteers are needed – individuals, families, students or service groups. Wear sturdy shoes, long pants and sleeves, and mosquito repellent, and bring gloves if you have them. Latex gloves, trash bags, snacks and drinks will be provided. Everyone must fill out a waiver form. Children under 14 are welcome but must be accompanied by an adult. The Friends will certify volunteer hours for community service.

Leadership Program Taking Applications

Leadership San Leandro, a program of the San Leandro Chamber of Commerce is accepting applications for the class of 2012-2013. The 9-month program meets the third Friday of the month for an all-day session. According to the Chamber of Commerce, the program empowers a diversity of individuals with knowledge, skills and inspiration, educates them with vital community information and reinforces their leadership qualities and ownership in the community. Keep Music Rockin’ Fundraising Dinner

The Keep Music Rockin’ Foundation is hosting a fundraising dinner, “An Evening Among the Stars,” on Saturday, Sept. 29, at 5:30 p.m. at the San Leandro Senior Center, 13909 East 14th St. Enjoy a gourmet 3-course dinner created by Chef Michael Schibler and his culinary students from Eden Area Occupational Program with local restaurateur and chef Mike Wiesner of Paradiso. Ping Pong for Players 50 and Over

Table tennis players 50 and over are welcome to play on the ping-pong tables at the San Leandro Senior Community Center, 13909 East 14th St. on Mondays from noon to 2:30 p.m. and Fridays from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. No pre-registration required.
