A San Leandro man was critically injured after being shot multiple times in his home on Orchard Avenue last Sunday evening.

The 48-year-old victim was in a detached garage near the back of his duplex home on the 1700 block of Orchard Avenue around 9 p.m. on Sept. 9 when he was shot several times, including at least one gunshot wound to his head, according to Lt. Randy Brandt of the San Leandro police.

The man was listed in critical condition after being brought to the hospital, but his condition was later upgraded to stable and he is expected to be released shortly, said Lt. Brandt.

The police believe the suspect, described only as an adult male, specifically targeted the victim, though the reason behind the shooting is unknown at this time, Brandt said.

A 911 caller who did not identify themselves used a cell phone to call in the shooting, Brandt said. The police are currently interviewing witnesses.

This is the second attempted murder in the city since the beginning of September. Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call the San Leandro police at 577-3201.
