A 20-year-old San Leandro man was shot to death at an apartment complex in Ashland in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Just after midnight on Sept. 16, the sheriff’s office received multiple 911 calls of shots fired at the Ashland Village Apartments on the 1100 block of Kentwood Lane in the unincorporated area, according to Sgt. J.D. Nelson of the Alameda County Sheriff’s Department.

When they arrived, they found the victim dead in one of the apartments. His name hasn’t been released by the coroner’s office, pending notification of his family.

There was no sign of a break-in and it appears the victim let the shooter into his apartment, Nelson said. The motive behind the shooting is unknown.

The murder is the second homicide in the unincorporated area this month.

In June of 2011, another young man was shot and killed at the Ashland Village apartments after a fight broke out at a party.

Anyone with information about the crime is asked to call the sheriff’s department at 667-3636.
