092012eThe San Leandro History Museum and the San Leandro Historical Society are having a free Day at the Casa on Saturday, Sept. 22, at Casa Peralta, 320 and 384  W. Estudillo Ave.

The San Leandro History Museum will be open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and will host a variety of events. Flamenco guitarist Gopal Slavonik will perform in the outdoor courtyard at 12:15 pm and 2:30 p.m. and Compania México Danza will perform in the courtyard at 1:15 p.m.  

San Leandro resident Takeo Kato will present “My Family’s World War II Internment: Tanforan Horse Stables and the Utah Desert” at 11:30 am in the Museum Auditorium. It will be followed by “San Leandro Stories” at 2 p.m. These six stories of San Leandro residents were produced by the San Leandro Public Library in conjunction with the Media Arts Center of San Diego.

At 4 p.m. author Carlos Salomon, will discuss his book “Pío Pico: The Last Spanish Governor of California,” and docents will provide tours of the beautiful Casa Peralta throughout the day.  

The San Leandro Historical Society is sponsoring a San Leandro-themed art show in the Little Brown Church, as well as providing crafts and old-fashioned games for kids to play. There will be speakers and entertainers all day.
