Thursday & Friday, Sept. 27-28: Public $5 Jewelry Sale

The popular $5 jewelry sale, a benefit for the San Leandro Hospital Auxiliary, will be held from 8-6 tomorrow, and from 7-3 on Friday in the 2nd floor classroom at San Leandro Hospital, 13855 East 14th Street. Unique items – all for $5 dollars or less. Info at 510-728-1671.


Friday, September 28: “Night in the Gardens” Fundraiser

The HARD Foundation invites you to a garden reception featuring food-tasting and beverage-pairing in the Japanese Gardens at 22372 N. 3rd St. in Hayward from 6 to 7:30 p.m., Friday followed by the production of “Grey Gardens” at the Douglas Morrisson Theatre. Tickets ($75 for both events, $50 for the reception) and information at 510-881-6731. Proceeds benefit Hayward Area Recreation District programs.


Friday, September 28: Pioneer Cemetery Clean-Up

Join other volunteers from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. this Friday for a final clean-up of San Lorenzo’s Historic Pioneer Cemetery before winter. Bring gloves and gardening tools and meet at the corner of College and Usher streets in San Lorenzo. Info at or 510-581-2516.


Saturday, September 29: Pet Adoptions

Dusty Paws Rescue will hold pet adoptions at Pet Food Express, 3385 Castro Valley Blvd., Castro Valley from 10 to 1 this Saturday. See some of our available animals. Volunteers and fosters will be on hand.


Sunday, September 30: Free Documentary Screening

The explosive documentary “Heist–Who Stole the American Dream?” will be shown at 1:30 p.m. this Sunday at the Castro Valley Library with a talk by Producer-Director Donald Goldmacher, presented by Starr King Unitarian Universalist Church. Free, donations accepted.


Sunday, September 30: 7th Annual Wine & Liberty Celebration

Meet Libertarian Party leaders and invited candidates from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday at Westover Winery, 34329 Palomares Road in Castro Valley. Monday, October 1: Senior Sing-Along

The San Leandro Parkinson’s Support and Information Group will gather at 10 a.m. (for exercise) and 10:30 a.m. for tomorrow’s discussion of eye care with Optometrist Dr. Stella Levin, at San Lorenzo Community Church, 945 Paseo Grande.
