SL Hospital Auxiliary $5 Jewelry Sale
The San Leandro Hospital Auxiliary will host the $5 Jewelry Sale on Thursday, Sept. 27, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.; and Friday, Sept. 28, from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the second floor classroom at San Leandro Hospital at 13855 East 14th St. in San Leandro. It’s open to the public and includes unique costume jewelry, watches and gift items – all for $5 or less. All proceeds benefit volunteer-supported programs of San Leandro Hospital. NARFE Packing Boxes for the Troops
San Leandro Chapter 511 of the National Retired Federal Employees (NARFE) will be packing boxes for the troops in Afghanistan at the Main Library, 300 Estudillo Ave., on Friday, Sept. 28, at 1 p.m. Come and help pack treats for the troops. You’re welcome to bring snacks, cosmetics, soup, books or calendars.
Zumba for John Muir Sports
Support the John Muir Middle School sports program by keeping in shape at a Zumba dance-exercise class every Thursday starting on Sept. 27 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. From 6 to 6:30 there is a warm-up for all and a tutorial for beginners. The class is $5 and is held in the gym of John Muir on Williams Street.
Pioneer Cemetery Cleanup
Volunteers are welcome to come to the San Lorenzo Pioneer Cemetery Clean-Up on Friday, Sept. 28, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Meet at the corner of College and Usher streets in San Lorenzo. Help maintain San Lorenzo’s historic hallowed ground. Bring gloves, gardening equipment and rakes. Water and light snacks will be provided. For more information, call 581-2516.
Golf Tourney for SLHS Baseball
Support the San Leandro High baseball team with a round of golf at the Monarch Bay Golf Club in San Leandro on Saturday, Sept. 29, with a shotgun start at 12:30 p.m. Registration begins at 10:30 a.m. $110 per golfer includes 18 holes of golf, driving range balls, golf cart, dinner with prizes and awards at Francesco’s Restaurant, 8520 Pardee Drive at Hegenberger Road in Oakland. Broadmoor Plaza Street Fair
Broadmoor Plaza, 232 East 14th St. in San Leandro, is having a street festival on Saturday, Sept. 29, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. with great food, music, performances, arts and crafts and a DJ spinning a variety of music. Mulford Gardens Art & Music Festival
The Mulford Gardens Improvement Association is hosting its first Community Art & Music Festival on Saturday, Sept. 29, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the park at 13055 Aurora Drive, across the street from Garfield Elementary School. Health for Life Chiropractic, 369 Juana Ave. in San Leandro, will host a free Health and Wellness Fair to benefit Building Futures with Women and Children on Saturday, Sept. 29, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. with hands-on demonstrations, great raffle prizes, and healthy snacks. Free to public.
Diabetes Support Group
The Diabetes Support Group of San Leandro meets on Monday, Oct. 1, at 5 p.m. at the San Leandro Surgery Center, 15035 East 14 St. in San Leandro. Registered Dietitian Chris Weahunt will continue her discussion of “Achieving a healthy lifestyle.” Admission is free and the public is welcome.
Parkinson’s Support Group
The San Leandro Parkinson’s Support and Information Group will meet on Thursday, Oct. 4, at the San Lorenzo Community Church, 945 Paseo Grande. Exercise at 10 a.m. and the meeting begins at 10:30 a.m. Optometrist Stella Levin will talk about eye care.
Calvary Lutheran Church Craft Fair

Salon Fundraiser for Stylist
Level 5 Salon, 1229 MacArthur Blvd. in San Leandro, presents a Cut-a-Thon event benefiting their stylist Adele Monterrosa to support her treatment with Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma on Sunday, Oct. 7, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Get a wash, cut and blowout for a minimum $30 donation. There will be a bake sale and coffee will be served. Raffle tickets for sale for gift baskets. No appointment is necessary, walk-ins are welcome. Level 5 Salon has partnered with Creasian, Sabino’s Coffeehouse and Paradiso restaurant for this community fundraising event.
SLZ Family Help Center Fundraiser
San Lorenzo Family Help Center is having a fundraiser at the Mar y Tierra Taqueria, 754 W. A St. in Hayward, on Tuesday, Oct. 9, from 4 to 9 p.m. On each order, 25 percent will go to the Help Center if you mention you’re there to support the SLZFHC. The menu has Mexican food and a great selection of seafood.
Alta Mira Pancake Breakfast
The Alta Mira Club, 561 Lafayette Ave. in San Leandro, is having a pancake breakfast on Saturday, Oct. 20, from 9 a.m. to noon.
