TODAY, October 3: First Presidential Debate

Thursday, October 4: Teacher of the Year Awards

The Alameda County Office of Education invites you to attend the 23rd Annual Teacher of the Year Awards Ceremony, from 6-9 p.m. Oct. 4 at the Castro Valley Center for the Arts, 19501 Redwood Road. Thursday, October 4: Parkinson’s Support Meeting

The San Leandro Parkinson’s Support and Information Group will gather at 10 a.m. (for exercise) and 10:30 a.m. for tomorrow’s discussion of eye care with Optometrist Dr. Stella Levin, at San Lorenzo Community Church, 945 Paseo Grande.

 

 

Thursday, October 4: Low Vision Support Group

Enhanced Vision Systems will demonstrate electronic equipment that will enlarge documents to whatever size you can read, and other equipment that will read a document to you, at tomorrow’s Low Vision Support Group meeting at 1 p.m. at the Baywood Court All Purpose Room, 21966 Dolores St. in Castro Valley. Friday-Saturday, Oct. 4-6: Shrouded Tales at the Cemetery



Take a walk through the historic San Lorenzo Pioneer Cemetery guided by the “Undertaker,” then hear the true Shrouded Tales of tragic ends and unsavory characters during programs at either 7 p.m. or 9 p.m. tomorrow, Friday and Saturday. Saturday, October 6: Fall Flea Market

The Aitken Senior & Community Center at 17800 Redwood Road, Castro Valley will hold its annual Big Fall Flea Market from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. this Saturday, a free event where more than 55 vendors will be selling one-of-a-kind items and unusual treasures. Saturday, October 6: 2nd Annual Bark for Life

Thursdays, October 11, 18, 25: Creative Writing Workshop

The Castro Valley Library is offering a free 3-week creative writing workshop with educator John Manion from 10:30 a.m. until noon on Oct. 11, 18 and 25. Open to adult beginning writers of fiction or non-fiction. Participants must commit to all 3 sessions, bringing copies of their writings to share. Register in person or by calling 510-667-7900.

 

Thursday, October 11: Castro Valley School Board Meeting

The School Board will hold a public hearing on the assurance of sufficient textbooks and instructional materials at its regular meeting at 7 p.m. on Oct. 11 in the District Office Board Room, 4400 Alma Avenue.

 

Saturday, October 13: Join the Marines...for Coffee

All men and women veterans of the U.S. Marine Corps are invited to join with other Marines from all different times and duty stations for coffee and donuts at 9 a.m. on Oct. 13 at the Veterans Memorial Building, 1105 Bancroft Ave. in San Leandro.
