CARLOS, Mary C., February 15, 1911 – September 28, 2012 • Resident of San Leandro, a longtime resident of San Leandro, passed away peacefully on September 28, 2012. She was 101 years old. Mary was born in the Tras-os-Montes region of Portugal and moved to San Leandro with her mother and brother in 1921. She worked for Stenzel Pickle Works for 20 years. Mary loved gardening, knitting, cooking and playing bingo. She was a member of the I.D.E.S. She is survived by her sisters, Jackie Amaral of Dublin and Ida Reis of Patterson; son, Louis, and daughter-in-law, Jane, of San Leandro; granddaughter, Susan Elliott, and grandson-in-law, Matthew Elliott, of Castro Valley; granddaughter, Sharon Carlos of San Leandro; great-grandson, Adam Elliott of Castro Valley; and great-granddaughters, Ashley Elliott of Livermore and Allison Elliott of Castro Valley. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be at Santos-Robinson Mortuary, 160 Estudillo Ave., in San Leandro on Wednesday, Oct. 3, from 12 noon to 8:30 p.m., with the Vigil Service commencing at 7 p.m. The Funeral Mass will be held at St. Leander Church in San Leandro on Thursday, Oct. 4, at 10 a.m., with graveside service following at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Hayward. EDLUND, Lucille M., Resident of San Leandro, Lucille (95) passed away on September 7, 2012. She is preceded in death by her husband, Theodore R. Edlund, and survived by her son, Rollin Edlund (Brentwood, Calif.); her daughter, Judith Edlund (Concord, Calif.); 5 grandchildren; and 3 great-grandchildren. Lucille was active in San Lorenzo Community Church and held several appointed positions in Eastern Star, San Lorenzo # 177 and Oakland’s Nova Dias # 140 OES. She was a recipient of the Rob Morris Award from San Lorenzo OES. Memorial services and a celebration of her life will be held Sunday, Oct. 28, at 3 p.m. at San Lorenzo Community Church, 945 Paseo Grande, in San Lorenzo — refreshments following. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Cancer Society or Shriner’s Children’s Hospital.
EDWARDS, Mary Dolores, of San Lorenzo, passed away on Monday, September 24, 2012 at age 81. A native of Oakland, Mrs. Edwards had lived in San Lorenzo since 1956, At her request, no services were to be held.
GELHAUS, Violet, formerly of San Leandro, passed away on Tuesday, September 25, 2012 at age 86. A native of Oakland, Mrs. Gelhaus attended Castlemont High. A family-only service was held in Hayward on Sept. 28.
GOMEZ, Donald Alfred, July 19, 1931 – October 1, 2012. Donald Gomez, a Jamestown resident, died on October 1, 2012 at Avalon Care Center in Sonora. He was 81 years old. Born in Oakland to Joseph and Margaret Gomez, Donald later moved to Sonora with his wife Beverly. He enjoyed deer hunting and fishing. For the majority of his life, he was a truck driver for Western Gillette and a Teamster Official for Local 70. He is preceded in death by his wife, Beverly Gomez. He is survived by his children and their spouses, Nadine and Allan Benson of Roseville, Laurie Trejo of Jamestown, and Debbie and Clint Gomez of San Leandro; grandchildren, Lana Parr, Brooke Benson, Jon Nichols, Jeff Nichols, Jeremy Nichols, Joey Nichols, LaRae Trejo, Daphnie Forwood, Jodie Truitt and Daniel Gomez; and 10 great-grandchildren. No service is scheduled — immediate family only. Arrangements made by Chapel of the Chimes.

RAINES, Myrna Lee, of San Leandro, passed away at her home on Wednesday, September 26, 2012, at age 74. A native of Buhl, Idaho, Ms. Raines worked for the Veterans Medical Center for 38 years. She was active in Ohlone Chapter DAR and the Masonic Lodge. Services were held Sept. 29 at Holy Angels Sorensen Chapel in Hayward.
ROMERO, Jay, of Sacramento passed away peacefully Sunday morning surrounded by his loving children and family. Jay was born on Feb. 8, 1955, in Oakland to Leo and Dora Romero. He is survived by his seven siblings. Jay was a loving and devoted father to Adam and Amber Romero, and beloved of Jackie Jones. He made a great impact on many people’s lives, and will be greatly missed. A memorial service will be held at St. Felicitas on Tuesday, Oct. 9, at 10:30 a.m.

SILVA, Mary Lou Baker, a longtime resident of San Leandro, passed away at Eden Hospital on Wednesday, September 26, 2012, at age 90. A native of Wardell, Missouri, she worked for many years at Sunshine Biscuits and was a longtime member of Eastern Star. Funeral Services will be held at Chapel of the Chimes in Hayward on Oct. 5.
TYNER, Nathalie Bain, Resident of Silverdale, Washington • January 17, 1923 – September 27, 2012, Veteran, USN, 89, passed away in Silverdale on September 27, 2012. Nathalie was born on January 17, 1923 in Pulcifer, Wisconsin to William and Ione Stibbe. Upon graduation from high school, she joined the Navy. Nathalie retired from NAS Alameda, Calif. with over 30 years of civil service. She was an active and integral member of the Summit Presbyterian Church in Bremerton. Nathalie’s passion was bowling. She was an active member of the Ladies of the Elks and the Bremerton Elks Club. She truly enjoyed shopping and traveling. She was preceded in death by her parents; son, John Patrick Bain; husband, Arthur Tyner; sister, Lynette Seeber; and great-grandson, Phillip Emmert. Nathalie’s memory will live on with her son, Charles W. Bain, and his wife, Kathy, of Shelton; sister, Carolyn Joa,s and her husband, Bill, of East Troy, Wisconsin; 2 grandchildren, Carolyn Emmert and her husband Michael of Weatherford, Texas, and Charles Kelly Bain of Virginia Beach; 6 great-grandchildren, Jeremy, Brian, Brandon, Rachael, Charles and Katherine; and stepson, Allen Tyner, and his wife, Judy, and family. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to a charity of one’s choice that is “Stroke” oriented.
WOODEN, Lynnsey Christa, age 26, passed away on Sunday, September 30, 2012, in Hayward. She is survived by her mother, Maryann Wooden; father and stepmother, Jerry and Jane Wooden; 2 brothers, Ryan and Adam Wooden; and grandparents, Pat Raub, and Don and Verda Wooden. She is also survived by many aunts, uncles, cousins and other family members, as well as many close friends. She was preceded in death by her grandfather, Donald Raub. The family will be receiving friends from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 5, at Olinger Crown Hill Mortuary, 777 W. 29th Ave., in Wheat Ridge, Colorado.
