19th Annual Trivia Bee

19th Annual Trivia Bee for Project Literacy will be held on Friday, Oct. 19, at the Marina Community Center, 15301 Wicks Blvd. See the teams match wits as they do on the “Jeopardy” TV show, have dinner and join the fun.  The Trivia Bee contest starts at 7:30 p.m. A drawing for prizes will also add to the fun factor. And it’s all for a Project Literacy, a program dedicated to promoting adult and family literacy. Dinner tickets are $25 or $30 at the door. Ping Pong for Players 50 and Over

Table tennis players 50 and over are welcome to play on the ping-pong tables at the San Leandro Senior Community Center, 13909 East 14th St. on Mondays from noon to 2:30 p.m. and Fridays from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. No pre-registration required. SL Players Present Cat on a Hot Tin Roof

Alta Mira Pancake Breakfast

The Alta Mira Club, 561 Lafayette Ave. in San Leandro, is having a pancake breakfast on Saturday, Oct. 20, from 9 a.m. to noon. Celebrate Teen Read Week with a horror-filled event at the San Leandro Main Library, 300 Estudillo Ave., on Saturday, Oct. 20, from 1 to 4 p.m. Watch a creepy flick, enjoy ghoulish snacks, and take home free books. Watch the Debate at the SLZ Library

Join your friends and neighbors to watch the Third Presidential Debate on a big screen at the San Lorenzo Library, 395 Paseo Grande, on Monday, Oct. 22. A moderator from the Eden Area League of Women Voters will be present to facilitate a lively discussion after the debate. The televised debate will be on from 5:45 to 7:30 p.m. and the discussion will follow from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. Refreshments will be served at this free program. The library is wheelchair accessible.

Arroyo High 1990s Reunion

A Toast to the Arts at Wine and Tapas

Buon Tempo Club Spaghetti Feed

The Buon Tempo Club will hold a benefit spaghetti & meatball feed on Sunday, Oct. 28, at the Castro Valley Moose Lodge, 20835 Rutledge Road in Castro Valley. Tickets are $15, or $10 for children for the entree, plus salad and bread. A raffle will follow. All proceeds will go to the George Mark House, a facility in San Leandro for the palliative care of terminally ill children and a respite for their caregivers. Halloween Stroll for Breast Cancer Awareness

Celebrate Breast Cancer Awareness month and Halloween. Change the color of Halloween from orange to pink. Put on your pink (costume optional) and join a stroll around the San Leandro Senior Community Center, 13909 East 14th St., or participate in a “Walking Fitness” demonstration on Wednesday, Oct. 31, from 10 to 11:30 a.m. A discussion on breast cancer and cervical cancer awareness, sharing and light refreshments will follow the stroll. San Leandro Toastmasters

The San Leandro Toastmasters meet every Thursday evening from 7 to 8 p.m. at the San Leandro Main Library, 300 Estudillo Ave. The local club is celebrating its 65th year. Toastmasters, a leader in communication and leadership development, is a learn-by-doing workshop where members hone their speaking skills in a no-pressure atmosphere. Members evaluate one another’s presentations and give impromptu talks on assigned topics. Guests are welcome. Come to improve your confidence in public speaking. It will help you in that job interview.

Adult Children of Alcoholics

Meetings for adult children of alcoholics are held every Tuesday evening from 7 to 8 p.m. at All Saints Church, 911 Dowling Blvd. in San Leandro. Adult Children of Alcoholics (ACA) helps adults whose lives have been affected by family alcoholism.

Caregiver Support Group

Being a caregiver is a difficult role. It is not unusual to feel alone, unappreciated and sometimes lost while caring for an elderly loved one. Please join Geriatric Care Managers from Sutter Care at Home and peers to exchange ideas, share resources, have a laugh and vent to those who understand what you are going through. The group will meet at the San Leandro Senior Community Center, 13909 East 14th St., the first Tuesday of each month from 9 to 10 a.m. Free private consultations with a geriatric care manager will be available following the group meeting.
