ALVISO, Elvera D., of San Leandro, passed away on Monday, October 8, 2012, at age 90. A true “Rosie the Riveter,” Mrs. Alviso worked at Mare Island from 1942 until 1945. A Mass was held on Oct. 12 at St. John’s Catholic Church in San Lorenzo. Arrangements were made by Grissom’s Mortuary.
ARRIOLA, Marcos Frank, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on October 9, 2012 at Eden Medical Center. He was 66. He leaves his wife of 31 years, Christina; his children, Deanna Trujillo (Shad), Jason Arriola (Maria), Rachel Arriola and his stepson, Tony Roque; 7 grandchildren; one great-grandson; a second great-grandson is due in December. He leaves a large family. Marcos loved to talk; he was kind and thoughtful. He will be remembered with love. A Memorial Service in his honor will be held Friday, Oct. 19, at 10:30 a.m. at Grissom’s Mortuary, 267 Lewelling Blvd., in San Lorenzo.
BREWER, Keith Allen, of San Leandro, passed away at his home on Sunday, October 14, 2012, at age 59. Keith was a long-time participant at Grace Koster Center followed by Sorensdale Recreation Center in Hayward. Private family services will be held at Chapel of the Chimes in Hayward.
ESPINOSA, Arthur F., of San Leandro, passed away at his home on Thursday, October 13, 2012, at age 88. A native of Fresno, Mr. Espinosa was a U.S. Navy veteran. A service will be held at 11 a.m. today, Oct. 18, at St. Felicitas’ Church, 1662 Manor Blvd., in San Leandro.
GARCIA, Ramon, Sr., passed away October 13, 2012. Visitations will be held on Thursday and Friday, Oct. 18 and 19, from 12 noon to 8 p.m. at Santos-Robinson Mortuary, 160 Estudillo Ave., in San Leandro. The Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, Oct. 20, beginning at 11:30 a.m. at St. Joachim Church, 21250 Hesperian Blvd., in Hayward. Interment at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Hayward.
GIBBS, Glenn Eugene, born June 30, 1923 in Kansas City, Missouri. passed away October 15, 2012 in San Leandro with his loving wife, Virginia Theisen Gibbs, at his bedside. He was preceded in death by wives, Beatrice Gibbs and Bette Joy Duarte Gibbs. He is survived by Linda (Joe) Beltramo, Gene (Andrea) Gibbs, Steve Duarte, Jude (Joe) Andrews, Larry (Patti) Theisen, Jr. and Fawn (James) Bailey; grandchildren, Amber Sital, Matt Gibbs, Mark Beltramo, Michelle Lodermeier, Aaron Theisen, Logan Theisen and Jessi Bailey; and 6 great-grandchildren. He was a veteran of WWII, serving in the U. S. Navy, and was employed for 35 years by Kaiser Aerospace & Electronics. He will be missed not only by his family but by many friends and former co-workers. At his request, there will be no services.
HALL, Lester Samuel, of San Lorenzo, passed away on Tuesday, October 9, 2012, at age 98. A native of Mina, Arkansas, Mr. Hall was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII and was a member of the Teamsters. Services were held at Chapel of the Chimes in Hayward on Oct. 15.
HAVLICEK, Dorothy M., resident of Hayward, born October 18, 1935, passed on October 15, 2012. Family and friends are invited to visit on Friday, Oct. 19, after 5 p.m, to the Vigil Service also on Friday at 7 p.m, and on Saturday, Oct. 20. Visitation will begin at 10:30 a.m. with the Funeral Service at 11 a.m. — all at Holy Angels Funeral and Cremation Center, 1051 Harder Rd., in Hayward. Committal to follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
JIROUSKY, Helen, of San Leandro, passed away on Monday, October 8, 2012, at age 90. A viewing was held at Chapel of the Chimes in Hayward on Oct. 15.
MANGIBEN-TELESFORO, Leonora, of San Leandro, passed away on Sunday, October 7, 2012, at age 88. A native of San Fernando, La Union, Philippines, she came to the U.S. in 1932 and became owner-operator of Leonora’s Beauty Salon in Alameda. The Mass took place Oct. 12 at St. Felicitas Catholic Church in San Leandro.
MARTINEZ, George T., a longtime resident of San Leandro, passed away on Saturday, October 13, 2012, at age 79. A native of Sabinosa, New Mexico, Mr. Martinez retired from the American Can Co. in Oakland after 38 years. A visitation will be held from 5 to 8:30 p.m. today, Oct. 18, at Holy Angels, 1140 B St., in Hayward, with a vigil service at 7 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Felicitas’ Church, 1662 Manor Blvd., in San Leandro, on Friday, Oct. 19, at 12 noon.
MERCEDES, Lara, of San Leandro, passed away on Tuesday, October 9, 2012, at age 85. A native of Oakland, Mrs. Mercedes retired after 27 years of srvice at Peralta Community Colleges. Services were held Oct. 17 at Chapel of the Chimes in Oakland.
MOON, Carol O. Franklin, December 11, 1927 – October 2, 2012. Carol Moon passed away on Tuesday, October 2, 2012, in Castro Valley at age 84. Carol was laid to rest Oct. 5, in Livermore. PRADO, Hortense Sanchez, of San Leandro, passed away on Wednesday, October 10, 2012, at age 86. A native of San Antonio, Texas, Mrs. Prado worked as a teacher’s aide for special-needs students and other positions. A funeral Mass was said Oct. 15 at St. Felicitas’ Church in San Leandro.
RICHARDS, Stephen, December 8, 1961 – October 15, 2012, Stephen passed suddenly on October 15, 2012. He leaves behind his best friend and beloved wife of 21 years, Maryanne, and their adored Lab, “Dolly.” He is also survived by his loving brother, Kevin; father, Bob; mother-in-law, Virginia Varella, “Grandma;” father-in-law, Raymond Varella; brother-in-law, Ray; sister-in-law, Nancy; his adored niece and nephew, Victoria and Vito; as well as many loving friends and god-children. He is preceded in death by his loving mother, Kuni. Stephen was a presence larger than life with a love of the outdoors. His favorite times were spent fishing on the lakes and rivers of California, Nevada, Oregon and Washington, and camping at his favorite spot — Eagle Lake in Lassen County. He was always up for a trip to get the big one. He made friends wherever he traveled and never met a stranger, just someone who he had not talked to yet. Vigil services are Sunday, Oct. 21, at 5 p.m. at St. John Vianney Catholic Church, 1650 Ygnacio Valley Road, in Walnut Creek; funeral Mass is on Monday, Oct. 22, at 10:30 a.m., also at St. John Vianney. In lieu of flowers, you may make contributions in his name to the Bay Area Crisis Nursery in Concord or Tony LaRussa’s ARF in Walnut Creek.
SILVA, Marie Pisciotto, of San Lorenzo, passed away at her home on Thursday, October 11, 2012, at age 83. A native of Alameda, Mrs. Silva was a proud and accomplished homemaker. A vigil was held Oct. 16 at Grissom’s Chapel Mortuary in San Lorenzo.

YORK Marilyn, of San Lorenzo, passed away at her home on Thursday, October 4, 2012, at age 90. Ms. York was a Journeyman Aircraft Engine Mechanic at the Newark Facility at the Alameda Naval Air Station for 33 years and was a co-founder of the Alameda Naval Museum. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 3, at the Alameda Naval Air Museum in Alameda.
