CASTRO VALLEY FORUM
It’s not the sort of place that’s likely to ever appear in the lead spot on the nightly news, but that doesn’t mean the Castro Valley Women’s Club isn’t a vibrant part of the community. The club provides thousand-dollar scholarships to high school students, donates to the George
Mark House in San Leandro and the Castro Valley Library, and has raised money to purchase bullet-proof vests for the Alameda County Sheriff’s K-9 Unit. Since 1948, the Women’s Club has provided a place for local women to not only socialize, but to enhance the community. “It’s something of a transitional time since we have longtime members, but we’re looking for more active members to do things that will benefit the community,” said Charlotte Lusschen, club president. “The club is inspiring because some of our members are in their 90s and are still active. We want Castro Valley to know we are still available and an asset to the community,” she said. Many of its 62 members, who live in Castro Valley, Hayward, Dublin and San Ramon, have been in the club for more than 50 years. “My favorite thing about the club is the people and the socialization that happens here,” said Gloria Johanson who retired recently and has been involved with the Castro Valley Women’s Club for nearly a year. The club meets the third Wednesday of each month and features weekly game nights in addition to their adventure trips to interesting destinations across the Bay Area. The Castro Valley Women’s Club is located at 18330 Redwood Road. Call 510-537-2778 for more information. |
