WASTE MANAGEMENT

Beginning Monday, crews from Rehrig Pacific Co. will follow Waste Management garbage trucks in Castro Valley to determine which collection bins should be recalled. They will replace affected carts, and leave a tag on each set to let residents know what action was taken.

The partial manufacturer’s recall of the bins became necessary after it was discovered that some of them did not meet the company’s standards. The defective carts do not pose a safety risk and they are being replaced at no cost to residents.

Castro Valley Sanitary District (CVSan) customers will receive a second notice in the mail two weeks before the crews will be in their area. On their regular collection day, residents will be instructed to leave all three carts curbside until 5 p.m. Backyard customers will not need to place carts curbside.

The recall and replacement operation will continue through Dec. 21. For more information call Waste Management Customer Service at 510-537-5500 or visit www.cvsan.org
