The Creekside Middle School girls softball team

A week after the Creekside Middle School flag football Wildcats defeated Canyon in the Battle of the Valley, the Creekside girls softball team defeated the Condors 5-3.

Pitcher Maggie DelGrande worked out of eight tough situations for the Creekside. She pitched six innings and allowed one earned run on four hits.

Canyon jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the top of the second.

Canyon’s threat began with a double by Sienna Mathis. More runs came home for Canyon when Sydney Richardson scored on a groundout by Kaitlyn Huey and MayaTomkowiak scored on an RBI double by Mathis.

Down 3-0, Michael Edwards-Gonzales hit a solo home run, that started a rally, that brought the Wildcats within a run, down 3-2.

The Wildcats went up for good in the fifth. Emily Shaw started the inning with a triple.\

Christina Maldanado made contact with the ball, but they got her out at first base, still allowing

Shaw to score to tie the game. Angelina Parker, Del Grande and Aisley Njissang had key hits to drive in 2 additional runs.

Del Grande and the Wildcat defense fought off the scrappy Condors in the sixth inning to seal the win.

The victory puts Creekside in second place and gave them a first round playoff bye.  Canyon dropped to third place.

Both teams played their playoff games last Tuesday, with Canyon losing 5-4 to Cesar Chavez

Middle School and Creekside beating John Muir, 5-0 with Del Grande recording the shutout.

The Wildcats will play Cesar Chavez in the Championship game.
