Cherry City Toastmasters

Alta Mira Bazaar

The Alta Mira Club, 561 Lafayette Ave. in San Leandro, is having its Annual Community Bazaar on Friday and Saturday, Nov. 9 and 10, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. with unique handmade items by many popular vendors and Alta Mira Club members. Lunches sold from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., White Elephant stage tables and a gift opportunity drawing table.

Amazing Bird Show at SLZ Library

Prepare to be amazed by Yah-kee and Korbel, the parrot performers that have been featured on The Tonight Show, Pet Star and The Ellen Show, at the San Lorenzo Library, 395 Paseo Grande in San Lorenzo, on Saturday, Nov. 10, at 1:30 p.m.  The birds’ repertoire includes animal impersonations, bike riding, singing opera and crying like a baby.

Foothill Arts of the Bay Gallery

Foothill Arts of the Bay Gallery, 22394 Foothill Blvd. in Hayward, presents its Member Holiday Show, featuring fine art and small artisan made gift items created by Hayward Arts Council members, through Dec. 14. Gallery hours: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday. The public is welcome to the reception on Saturday, Nov. 10, from 1 to 3 p.m.

Veterans’ Day Ceremony

The City of San Leandro, in conjunction with the Alameda County Veterans Affairs Commission, will be hosting the 60th Annual Veterans Day Observance on Sunday, Nov. 11, at 11 a.m. at the San Leandro Senior Community Center, 13909 East 14th St.  Honored guests will include Ed Abbey, Veteran Affairs Chairman; Richard Biddlecome, American Legion Post 117 Commander; Ron Galvan, Master of Ceremonies and Post 117 Commander; Mayor Stephen Cassidy and members of the City Council and community leaders. The event is free and is open to the public.

Eagles Bingo-Luncheon

The Hayward Eagles Auxiliary is having its monthly bingo luncheon on Monday Nov. 12, at noon at the Eagles Hall, 21406 Foothill Blvd., near I-580. The hostess June Kern along with her helpers will be serving turkey, stuffing, fruit salad, rolls and pies. The price of $7 includes a free bingo card.  There will also be a raffle, two tickets for $1. The proceeds will go to the Kidney Foundation.

Rotary Club Meets on Wednesdays

The Rotary Club of San Leandro meets every Wednesday from noon to 1:30 p.m. at the Sequoyah Country Club, 4550 Heafey Road in Oakland. Lunch with business and community leaders and get involved in community and international service projects. For more information, call Carole Rogers at 772-1669.

Watercolor Demonstration

Meetings for adult children of alcoholics are held every Tuesday evening from 7 to 8 p.m. at All Saints Church, 911 Dowling Blvd. in San Leandro. Adult Children of Alcoholics (ACA) helps adults whose lives have been affected by family alcoholism.

Arroyo Craft Fair

The Arroyo High School Athletic Boosters are having their Annual Holiday Boutique/Craft Faire on Saturday, Nov. 17, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Arroyo cafeteria, featuring homemade crafts, baked goods, a snack bar and door prizes. Vendors are still wanted. Call Diana at 305-2517.

Renew the Creek Meeting

You’re invited to share your ideas on how to renew San Leandro Creek and make it more accessible to the entire community. SL Arts Council Exhibit

The Arts Council of San Leandro and the San Leandro Main Library present “People and Places of the Southern Hemisphere,” a group art exhibit of renowned Bay Area photographers. The show features the work of Kamau Amen-Ra, Charles Rhone, Edward Miller, Wanda and Tasin Sabir and Tumani Onbiyi. The art is on display through Nov. 30 at the San Leandro Main Library, 300 Estudillo Ave.

Corvallis Annual Holiday Boutique

Corvallis School is having its Annual Holiday Boutique on Saturday, Dec. 1, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. with lots of homemade crafts and goodies at reasonable prices. Help the needy families in our community by bringing in a toy, canned food item, or clean, used coat. Door prizes every half hour. New vendors are welcome.
