Longtime Castro Valley construction company owner Randy Vanderbilt has been named “2012 Business Person of the Year” by the Castro Valley / Eden Area Chamber of Commerce.

“This came as a total surprise,” exclaimed Vanderbilt, who was notified of the award on Friday. “I just hope to do justice to all the great individuals who have won before me.”

Vanderbilt’s family-owned business was begun in Castro Valley more than 40 years ago.

Early on, Randy worked for his grandfather, Richard, and his three brothers before joining the Carpenter’s Union at the age of 20. He has been at the helm for over a decade.

Vanderbilt is also an active member of Castro Valley Rotary which organizes such community events as the Annual Rowell Ranch Rodeo Parade and Chili Cook-Off.

“I am taking some time to absorb it. I just do things because I love this town,” Vanderbilt added.

Chamber Executive Director Roberta Rivet described Vanderbilt as “the perfect candidate for the honor,” calling him the go-to person to solve problems and get things done.

Vanderbilt will be honored by the Chamber at a Dec. 5 luncheon at the Willow Park Event Center. For tickets or information, call 510-537-5300.
