ALEXANDER, Ann Marie, of San Leandro, passed away on Thursday, November 22, 2012, at age 89. Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. with a rosary at 7 p.m. today, Nov. 29, and a Mass will be said at 10 a.m. Friday, both at St. Jarlath’s Catholic Church, 2620 Pleasant St. in Oakland.

BESSON, Woodrow (Woody) W., July 8, 1915 – November 11, 2012. Woody delivered mail, did income tax returns, and resided in San Lorenzo from 1945 to 1970. He was known as the whistling mail man. Services will be held on December 15 in Hillsboro, Oregon.

BROCK, Joel Walter, of San Leandro, passed away on Sunday, November 18, 2012, at age 71. Graveside services were held Nov. 27 at Mt. View Cemetery in Oakland. Arrangements were made by Colonial Chapel Funeral Directors.

CUCCHIARA, Tony, August 4, 1933 – November 25, 2012, passed away on Sunday Nov. 25, at the age of 79. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Myrna; his sister, Frances; brother, Dominick; children, Angela, Mark and Gina; and 7 grandchildren, Alissa, Ashley, Christina, Robin, Michael, Gia and Chris. At his request, no services were held. Arrangements made by Wilson & Kratzer Chapel of San Ramon Valley in Danville (925-820-2999).

DEL VIGNA, Lily M., of San Leandro, passed away on Thursday, November 22, 2012, at age 89. Ms. Del Vigna was a member of the Columbo and Fratallenza clubs. A funeral liturgy and vigil were held Nov. 28 at St. Leander’s Church in San Leandro. Arrangements were made by Santos-Robinson Mortuary, 160 Estudillo Ave., San Leandro.

FANNING, Donna Mae, who lived in San Lorenzo and Oakland for more than 65 years, passed away after a long battle with Alzheimer’s on Thursday, November 15, 2012. She was 80. A memorial service was held Nov. 26 at Chapel of the Chimes in Hayward.

KILROY, Phyllis Fay, who had lived in San Leandro for 58 years before moving to Fremont three years ago, passed away on Monday, November 19, 2012, at age 91. A native of Berkeley, Mrs. Kilroy was among the founding parishioners of St. Felicitas Church in San Leandro. A funeral Mass was held Nov. 26  at St. Felicitas Church. Arrangements were made by Grissom’s Mortuary.

PRUSINOVSKI, Ross Joseph “Butch,” of San Leandro, passed away on Friday, November 16, 2012, at age 67. A native of Oakland, Mr. Prusinovski served as an Army Captain in Vietnam and returned home to Oakland to work in the family owned business. He had worked at Engine Performance Warehouse in Oakland for over 30 years. A memorial Mass was celebrated Nov. 24 at Our Lady of Grace Church in Castro Valley.

RANGEL, Albert E., of San Lorenzo passed on November 25, 2012. A Memorial Mass celebrating his life will be on Thursday, Dec. 6, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Felicitas Church, 1442 Manor Blvd., in San Leandro.

TURNER, Mrs. Gnarine Patricia, went to grace on Wednesday, November 21, 2012, after suffering a stroke the week before. She was 85. She was preceded by her husband of 53 years and is survived by three sons, Douglas, David and Brian Turner all of Pleasanton, and 5 grandchildren. Born in 1927 in Oakland, she graduated from Fremont High and worked as a clerk for Standard Oil of California and also the Pleasanton Unified School District as a bus driver. No services will be held by request of the decedent. Any donations may be made to the National Stroke Association (

WALDRON, Vanis Roy, September 19, 1936 – November 15, 2012, affectionately known as Van to friends and family, passed away on November 15, 2012 at Kaiser Hospital in Hayward. He was born in West Virginia and served 2 years in the U.S. Army before making California his home in 1962. He had worked at General Motors in Oakland and Fremont among various other jobs before making his decision to take up art as a hobby. Through his studies of art, Van has become known throughout California as one of its finest Impressionistic Artists and one of the areas most sought-after art teachers. Van has won over 300 national and regional awards, and is listed in Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in Art and Who’s Who in The World. Van is well represented in many private and public collections throughout the world. He is a graduate of the Art Institute with a California Teaching Credential and has also studied at the Sergei Bongart School of Art, as well as with many Master Artists throughout the United States. Van is survived by 6 brothers, Cecil, Tom, Raymond, Earl, Jimmy and Robert Waldron. He was also preceded in death by 2 brothers, Johnny and Norman Waldron; and 2 sisters, Leona Devore and Marjorie Enoch. Van is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Memorial to be held at a later date.
