Armed gunmen injure resident

By Robert Souza

A group of four or five armed men staged a home-invasion-style robbery early Friday morning at a home in the 20000 block of Cypress Ranch Rd. in Castro Valley.

The gunmen  – all wearing masks – ransacked the home, stealing jewelry and other valuables, and injuring one of the residents.

Sheriff’s Sgt. JD Nelson said the suspects broke into the home around 3 a.m. by climbing through a small window at the rear of the house.

“It’s a brazen thing for someone to do something like this,” said Nelson, who told the Forum one of the victims was struck in the head with a blunt object during the robbery.

Both of the home’s occupant were over 60 years old. The injured victim was treated for his injuries and is expected to recover, Nelson said.

Cypress Ranch Road is a private, gated cul-de-sac off of Jensen Road with seven large homes.

Sheriff’s investigators have, as yet, no description of the suspects and are hoping to find a witness who may have seen the suspects or a suspicious car in the area.

Anyone with info is urged to call the Sheriff’s non-emergency tip line at 510-667-7721.
