TODAY, December 12: Presentation of Under Water Images

John and Marilyn Walker will show a collection of underwater images and video from the tropical Pacific Ocean from 1:30-2:30 p.m. today at the Aitken Community Center, 17800 Redwood Road. The images were captured during 10 years of dive trips to Indonesia, the Solomon Islands, etc. Admission is $1. For more info, call 510-881-6738.

 

Friday, December 14: Chanukah Service & Potluck

Join Congregation Shir Ami at 6:30 p.m. this Friday for a potluck dinner (with plenty of latkes to celebrate the holiday) and a Chanukah service at 4529 Malabar Ave., off Redwood Road. Saturday, December 15: “A Christmas Carol”

The Hayward Area Historical Society will present a unique telling of Charles Dickens’ timeless tale from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. on the Saturdays of Dec. 15, and 22, at the McConaghy House, 18701 Hesperian Blvd., Hayward. Dusty Paws Rescue will hold pet adoption event from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. this Saturday at Pet Food Express, 3385 Castro Valley Blvd. in Castro Valley. Stop by, meet and greet the animals. Volunteers will be on hand to answer your questions.

 

Saturday, December 15: Breakfast with Santa


Enjoy an all-you-can-eat pancake and sausage breakfast with Santa Claus from 8 to 10 a.m. Dec. 15 at the Ice Creamery for $8 per person. Proceeds benefit the American Cancer Society. Saturday & Sunday, Dec. 15-16: Christmas at the Mission

The Ohlone College Chamber Singers presents the 27th Annual Christmas at the Mission, “Hark How the Bells,” in collaboration with the Celebration Chimes Bell Choir from the First Presbyterian Church of Livermore, and renowned harpist Dan Levitan, conducted by Michael Morris. Levitan will perform with the Chamber Singers in the featured work for the concert, Benjamin Britten’s “The Ceremony of Carols.” Performances are this Saturday at 8 p.m. and Sunday at 4 p.m. at the Old Mission San Jose, 43300 Mission Blvd., Fremont. Sunday, December 16: Woodwind & Brass Winter Concert

Hillside Woodwind Quintet and Montecito Brass Ensemble will perform individually, then as ensemble, in a program of light classical and seasonal music at 2 p.m. on Dec. 16 at the Castro Valley Library. Members of the groups are local residents who wish to share their love of music with the community. The groups have performed throughout the Bay Area. Sunday, December 16: Annual Chanukah Celebration

Tri-Valley Cultural Jews will host their annual Chanukah Celebration from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Dec. 16 at the Bothwell Center, 2466 8th St. in Livermore. Fun for the whole family. The Castro Valley Democratic Club will hold its annual Holiday Party from 2 to 5 p.m. this Sunday in Castro Valley. Thursday, December 20: Annual Christmas Concert

Church of the Transfiguration, at 4000 East Castro Valley Blvd., will be performing its annual Christmas Concert at 7:30 p.m. on Dec. 20, featuring performances from the Adult Choir, the Children’s Choir, soloists and instrumentalists, and a traditional carol “sing-along.”  The awe-inspiring Hallelujah Chorus will wrap up the event. Admission is free, a goodwill offering will be accepted.

 

Sunday & Monday, Dec. 23-24: Bethlehem in Castro Valley

Hear and experience the Christmas story in worship and by visiting “Little Bethlehem” with shepherds and live sheep at New Life Christian Fellowship, 22360 Redwood Road, Castro Valley at 10 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 23. Afterwards, holiday desserts and gifts for all.
