A man is fighting for his life after being shot in the chest as he sat in his car on West Broadmoor Boulevard on Christmas Eve.

A 911 caller reported that a man was shot and police arrived around 8 p.m. to find him behind the wheel of his white SUV, which was stopped in the middle of the road on the 200 block of West Broadmoor Boulevard, according to Lt. Rick DeCosta of the San Leandro police.

The victim, who is identified only as a man in his 60s, was unresponsive when police arrived.

The driver’s side window was shattered and the man had been shot once in the chest, Decosta said.

The man was transported to an undisclosed hospital in life-threatening condition and he underwent emergency surgery. As of Wednesday, the man was still hospitalized in unknown condition.

Police set up a perimeter and searched the area for suspects or witnesses, but no one was found, DeCosta said. Neighbors reported hearing the gunshot and the sound of broken glass, but gave no further information.

The motive for the shooting is unknown at this time, DeCosta said.
