CERVONE, Anthony “Tony,” a 60-year resident of Castro Valley, died Sunday, December 16, 2012, at the age of 94. A vigil service will be held at 7 p.m. today, December 26, at Sorenson Chapel, 1140 B Street, Hayward, A funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, December 27 at Our Lady of Grace Church in Castro Valley.


GITLIN, Marthella “Marty,” of Castro Valley, passed away at Baywood Court in Castro Valley on Friday, December 14, 2012, at age 88. A native of Chicota, Texas, Mrs. Gitlin worked at FBI headquarters during World War II. After the war she worked for the U.S. Army in Germany and was the women’s editor for “The Stars and Stripes” newspaper. She was a longtime member of United Methodist and a volunteer with Castro Valley Friends of the Library. A celebration of her life will take place at a later date.

KORST, Rebekah A., was born at Eden Hospital in Castro Valley on March 15, 1961 to Inez and Bernard Tagge, the proud parents of the biggest baby of the week. She was one of five siblings, (Bernadette, Stephen, Linda, and Mark), and lived her entire life as a Castro Valley resident. Becky passed on December 20, 2012. As a young student, Becky was placed into a gifted honors program where she excelled in school. Aside from being an exceptional student, she also had a great talent and love of music which she exercised by playing flute and filling her Castro Valley home with her classical pianist skills. Becky continued her education at Chabot College, where she studied nursing. Through college, she worked as a student nurse and waitress. Following college, Becky met her husband, Kevin, and the two were married on September 15, 1984. After deciding to change career paths, Becky started her career at SafeAmerica CU where she worked for 18 years. In this time, Kevin and Becky started a family and had two children, Kyra and Daniel. Becky filled her life with many family, friends and pets. She created numerous memories houseboating, camping, hosting parties, and raising her children with her husband. More recently, Becky enjoyed spending time with her great nieces and nephews, watching her husband’s band play, helping her daughter plan her wedding, and playing with her new puppy and kittens. Becky was an amazing daughter, wife, mother, sister, aunt and friend. She loved her family more than anything in the world and they loved her. Her smile was infectious and her love and compassion for others endless. She found great joy in the many family members and lifelong friends she surrounded herself with. Friends and family are invited to attend the memorial service on Saturday, Dec. 29, at 1 p.m. at Jess C. Spencer Mortuary, 21228 Redwood Road, in Castro Valley, (510) 581-9133.



YOTHERS, Chester, of Castro Valley, passed away at his home on Tuesday, October 30, 2012. A celebration of his life will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 27, in the Chapel of Neighborhood Church in Castro Valley, with a reception to follow. Arrangements were made by Jess. C. Spencer Mortuary in Castro Valley,
