The San Leandro Old Timers baseball team will start practice next week.

The San Leandro Old Timers baseball team is about to start practice for the upcoming season.

The team is for players 35 and older and they play with wooden bats — the way the game is meant to be played. Many of the players are former college, high school, semi-pro and pro players.

The Old Timers play a 16-game schedule against teams from Modesto, Fairfield, Vallejo and as far away as Watsonville. The home field is San Leandro Ballpark on Teagarden Street.

This year the San Leandro team will dedicate the season to a fallen teammate, Hayward policeman Rod Pierce.

Opening day on April 6 will be “Rod Pierce Day” at the ballpark with a ceremony that will include his family and friends.

Players interested in playing for the team should call Tony Jackson at 925-864-6219 or email This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .
