A Night with Ricardo Garcia

Curtain Call presents A Night With Ricardo Garcia, the first concert in its new concert series, in the intimate setting of the newly refurbished California Conservatory Theatre, 999 E. 14th St. in San Leandro. Garcia is a local Opera recently performed at The Ford Amphitheater in Los Angeles to a standing ovation. A Night With Ricardo Garcia runs Jan. 18 through Jan. 20 with performances at 8 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, and at 7 p.m. on Sunday; and matinees at 2 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. Dusty Paws Pet Adoption

Dusty Paws Rescue is holding an adoption on Saturday, Jan. 19, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Pet Food Express, 3385 Castro Valley Blvd. in Castro Valley. Stop by to meet and greet the animals that are looking for a forever home. Volunteers and fosters will be present to answer questions about adoption and becoming a foster parent.

Alta Mira Club Crab Feed

Kiwanis Annual Crustacean Festation

The Kiwanis Club of San Leandro is having its annual Crustacean Festation crab feed on Saturday, Jan. 19, at the San Leandro Boys & Girls Club, 401 Marina Blvd. in San Leandro. The social hour begins at 5:30 p.m. and dinner starts at 6:30 p.m. with crab, salad, pasta and garlic bread. Dance from 8 to 10 p.m. to the music of Chico & the Band. Discover Homeschool Spelling Bee

The Discovery Homeschool Spelling Bee will be held on Saturday, Jan. 19, at 1 p.m. in Conference Room C at the San Leandro Main Library, 300 Estudillo Ave. The winner will advance to the preliminary round of the San Francisco Chronicle Spelling Bee. Spellers must be home schooled students, 14 years old or younger, and in the eighth grade or lower.  There will be a $10 registration fee per speller. Arroyo Boosters Annual Crab Feed

Arroyo Athletic Booster Club’s 33rd Annual Crab Feed will be on Saturday, Feb. 2, at the San Leandro Boys & Girls Club, 401 Marina Blvd. Doors open at 5 p.m. Tickets are $40, which includes all-you-can-eat salad, pasta, bread, and crab, along with dancing, full bar and a raffle. Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration

The City of San Leandro will host the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration at the Marina Community Center, 15301 Wicks Blvd., on Monday, Jan. 21, at 2 p.m. Student contestants will perform an original or well-known essay, speech or poem in celebration of King’s message of peace, tolerance and social justice. Prizes will be awarded in each age category, courtesy of the San Leandro Optimist Club. There will be entertainment, crafts for kids and light refreshments will be served.

Assumption Dad’s Club Crab Feed

The Assumption Dad’s Club is having its annual Men’s Crab Feed with pesto pasta on Tuesday, Jan. 22, at the school gym. Doors open at 6 p.m., dinner served at 7 p.m. Poker table and 50/50 Raffle. National and World Affairs Forum

The next National and World Affairs Forum at San Leandro Senior Community Center, 13909 East 14th Street, meets from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 24. The topic is “How Do Supreme Court Decisions Affect our Lives?” Enjoy this opportunity to keep informed, share, and learn what’s going on around the world in a moderated forum setting. Documentary Film on Gender Roles

The documentary film about the effect of homophobia on gender roles in high school will be shown on Friday, Feb. 1, at 7:30 p.m. at the San Leandro High Arts Education Center, 2200 Bancroft Ave. “Straight-laced – How Gender’s Got Us All Tied Up” by Academy Award-winning director Debra Chasnoff is a riveting and often funny film about gender roles and issues that affect us all. There will be a discussion after the movie and refreshments will be available. Everyone is welcome. Best for age 14 and older. St. Leander Church Valentine Crab Feed

St. Leander Church is having its annual crab feed on Saturday, Feb. 9, at Ryan O’Connell Hall, 575 W. Estudillo Ave., San Leandro. Social hour begins at 5:30 p.m., and dinner will be served at 6:30 p.m.  Tickets are $40 per person which includes crab, pasta, salad, bread and dessert.  The event is “assigned seating only” and no outside beverages.  There will be a silent auction and sports memorabilia silent auction.  To purchase tickets or for more information, call the St. Leander Parish Office at 895-5631.  Last day to purchase tickets is Feb. 4.
