The Home Depot in the Westgate Center was robbed by two men Tuesday evening and at least one of the suspects was armed.

Witnesses reported two black males in ski masks came into the store at 1933 Davis Street just after 7 p.m. and demanded money from an employee. At least one of the suspects brandished a handgun, according to Lt. Luis Torres of the San Leandro police department.

The men got the money and fled the scene. During the robbery, there were several employees and customers in the store and one employee fainted and was taken to the hospital.

Police say that the customers and employees did the right thing by not attempting to stop the robbers and that all they ask of witnesses is to safely gather as much information about the suspects as possible.

The Home Depot robbery comes less than a month after two men robbed the Walmart in the same shopping center. In the Walmart hold up, two men entered the store around 3 p.m. on Dec. 17 – one armed with a handgun – and demanded cash.

One suspect in the Walmart robbery was arrested by Fremont police for a robbery of a Walmart in that city. A warrant has also been issued for the second suspect in the Walmart case.

Anyone with information about any of the robberies is asked to call the police’s tip line at 577-3278.
