BARRETT, Eileen, of San Leandro, passed away on Sunday, December 30, 2012, at age 73. A native of Sacramento, Mrs. Barrett worked as an escrow officer and then became a real estate agent. Services were held in Portland, Oregon.
CAIN, Dolores Maes, of San Leandro, passed away on Monday, December 31, 2012 from pancreatic cancer. She was 80, A native of Denver, Colorado, she had lived in Oakland for many years. Memorial services were held Jan. 19 at First Presbyterian Church in San Leandro.
CAMARA, Maria Eugenia, of San Leandro, passed away on Monday, January 14, 2013, at age 96. A native of Madeira Island, Portugal, she immigrated to California in 1976. Mrs. Camara was a longtime member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Hayward. Services were held Jan. 18 at Chapel of the Chimes in Hayward.
MASSIE, William Joseph, of San Lorenzo, passed away on Wednesday, December 26, 2012, after a short battle with cancer. He was 77. Mr. Massie was a 1953 graduate of San Lorenzo High School. A celebration of his life/tailgate party will be held at the Oakland A’s game April 14.
McSHARRY, James M., February 20, 1933 – January 16, 2013, born in 1933 in Winner, South Dakota. Jim grew up in Greeley and Omaha, Nebraska, and graduated from Creighton Prep. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1951-1955 — stationed in San Diego, Guam, Japan and Taiwan. With two other Radiomen, he established the first U.S Navy radio station in Taipei. Following his honorable discharge, he attended Creighton University and the University of San Francisco, earning a J.D. from the latter. He then served as Deputy District Attorney for Contra Costa County and attorney for the City of San Leandro, composing a new charter for the city that was adopted as a model by the League of California Cities. Jim’s volunteer commitments included serving on the Board of Directors of Alameda County Easter Seal Society, and as charter president of St. Leander Parish Council and Parish School Board. He was a charter member of the Board of Directors and the first Executive Director of Community Resources for Independent Living in Hayward. Jim is survived by Mary Jane, his devoted wife of 54 years; 6 children; 9 grandchildren; and 3 great-grandchildren. A memorial mass with reception to follow will be held on Monday, Jan. 28, at 1 p.m. at St. Felicitas Church, 1662 Manor Blvd., in San Leandro. In lieu of flowers, please donate to your favorite charity or have masses offered for Jim’s soul.
RODRIGUEZ, Margaret, of San Lorenzo, passed away at her home on Sunday, January 13, 2012. A native of Madera, she was 86.
SILVA, Stanley A., of San Leandro, passed away on Friday, January 4, 2013, at age 67. A native of Oakland, Mr. Silva was a U.S. Army veteran who served in the California Highway Patrol for 32 years. He was a Commander in Chief of the American Legion Post 790. Memorial services will be held at the Sacramento Valley National Cemetery in Dixon on Jan. 25, at 12:30 p.m.
SMITH, Delores, of San Leandro, passed away on Friday, January 11, 2013, after a long illness. She was 81. A native of Berkeley, she was a certified counselor, a former vice president in the banking industry, and the owner of an art shop. Services were held Jan. 22 at Chapel of the Chimes in Oakland.
SURMICK, Lawrence A. “Larry,” of San Leandro, passed away on Saturday, January 12, 2013, at age 77. A native of Hazleton, Pennsylvania, Mr. Surmick was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and a member of SIRS. Services were held Jan. 18 at Holy Angels Funeral Center.
TRIBERTI, John Robert, who lived in San Leandro for many years, passed away on Monday, January 14, 2013, at age 66. A native of Oakland, Mr. Triberti was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. He worked as a driver for Frito Lay for 33 years. Services were held Jan. 18 at Jess C. Spencer Mortuary in Castro Valley.
