The suspects force entry into parked cars, usually by breaking windows, according to Lt. Randy Brandt of the San Leandro police. They then grab valuables like cell phones.
The thefts have been more prevalent this month and most often occur between 4 p.m. and 7 p.m.
Brandt says that people should park in a well-lit area and always remove valuables from their car, even if they are making a short stop. Hide charging cords for electronics because if the criminal sees the cord, they’ll assume the gadget is also there.
