Smokers are urged to give  themselves the best Valentine’s gift anyone can give by taking the first step towards being more heart-healthy and making the commitment to quit smoking. Quitting smoking not only lowers the risk of cardiovascular diseases, but you can also lower the risk for stroke and cancer. Physically, those who quit will find they begin to breathe better, and feel and look better too.

“A New Approach to Quitting Smoking,” a class that will give people the tools to break away from nicotine, will meet from 10 a.m. to 1 p .m. on Saturday, Feb. 9,  at Eden Medical Center, 20103 Lake Chabot Road in CV.

Those who attend will come away with a new understanding of why nicotine is the most addictive substance on the open market. People will also be able to differentiate between quitting and stopping smoking, learn how to mentally prepare for the challenge, practice stress reduction techniques and develop strategies to cope with cravings and difficult situations.

The cost of the class is $25 per person. To register, and for more information, call 1-888-445-8433. Enrollment deadline is Feb. 6.
