Hospital Volunteers $5 Jewelry Sale

The $5 Jewelry Sale hosted by the San Leandro Hospital Volunteer program is back just in time for Valentine’s Day on Thursday, Feb. 7 from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.; and Friday, Feb. 8, from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. at San Leandro Hospital, 13855 East 14th St. in San Leandro with unique costume jewelry, watches and gift items – all for $5 dollars or less. Proceeds benefit volunteer-supported programs of San Leandro Hospital. For more information, call 728-1671.

Parkinson’s Support Group

The San Leandro Parkinson’s Support Group will meet on Thursday, Feb. 7, at the San Lorenzo Community Church, 745 Paseo Grande in San Lorenzo. Exercise at 10 a.m. and the meeting begins at 10:30 a.m. with an open discussion.

Teen Talent Show

See the best of local teen talent at the San Leandro’s Got Talent show on Friday, Feb. 8, at 7 p.m. at the San Leandro Main Library. Tickets are on sale  at San Leandro Main Library (300 Estudillo Avenue) and the Recreation and Human Services Department South Offices (835 East 14th Street). Ticket prices are $10 for adults and $5 for youth, 17 and under. Light refreshments will be sold during intermission and there will be a raffle for great prizes.

Art Show at O’Lague Galleria

The John O’Lague Galleria presents “Art: Believe/Achieve” by artists and authors of the Diablo/Alameda Branch of the National League of American Pen Women through March 30 at the John O’Lague Galleria at Hayward City Hall, 777 B St. The public is welcome to the reception that will feature short readings by authors and brief comments by artists on Friday, Feb. 8, 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. For more information, call the Hayward Arts Council at 538-2787.

The All Fur Love Pet Adoption

The Hayward Animal Shelter is holding its first big adoption for 2013, All Fur Love, on Saturday, Feb. 9, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 16 Barnes Court in Hayward. Kittens, cats, dogs, puppies and bunnies will be up for adoption. Sponsored by the Hayward Animal Shelter Volunteers and Sunshine Rescue Group. In recognition of Prevent a Litter Month, the adoption fee for all animals adopted at this event will be reduced to $20. Dog license fees still applicable if you are a Hayward resident. Join the Marines...for Coffee

Don’t be just a former Marine, join other Marines, past and present, once a month on the second Saturday (except in November) at 0900 hours at the Veterans Memorial Building, 1105 Bancroft Avenue, San Leandro, following the tradition of “Once a Marine, Always a Marine,” for coffee, doughnuts and friendship. St. Leander Church Valentine Crab Feed

St. Leander Church is having its annual crab feed on Saturday, Feb. 9, at Ryan O’Connell Hall, 575 W. Estudillo Ave., San Leandro. Social hour begins at 5:30 p.m., and dinner will be served at 6:30 p.m.  Tickets are $40 per person which includes crab, pasta, salad, bread and dessert.  The event is “assigned seating only” and no outside beverages. Hearing Loss Association Meeting

The Hearing Loss Association will meet at Kaiser Hospital, 280 W. MacArthur Blvd. in Oakland, on Saturday, Feb. 9. Refreshments at 9:30 a.m. and the program is from 10 to 11:30 a.m., “Living with a Cochlear Implant.” This month only the meeting will be held in Rm.G27 of the Fabiola building.

Dusty Paws Adoption

Dusty Paws Rescue is holding a Valentine’s Bake Sale on Saturday, Feb. 9, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Pet Food Express, 3385 Castro Valley Blvd. in Castro Valley . Also, Dusty Paws will have an adoption on Sunday, Feb. 10, from 1 to 4 p.m at Petco, 3735 E. Castro Valley Blvd. Volunteers will be present to answer questions.

Art Demonstration by Edward Burton

Award winning artist Edward Burton will do an art demonstration at the San Leandro Art Association meeting on Tuesday, Feb. 12, at 7 p.m. at the San Leandro Main Library, 300 Estudillo Ave. Admission is free.

Castro Valley Neuropathy Support Group

The Castro Valley Neuropathy Support Group meets the second Wednesday of every month at 1:30 p.m. at Presbyterian Church in Castro Valley.  The door is next to the Trader Joe’s parking lot. Valentine’s Day at the Senior Center

Share a delicious “heart-y” lunch prepared by Chef Rick, enjoy fun games, raffle prizes and more at the Valentine’s Day party on Thursday, Feb. 14, from noon to 2 p.m. at the San Leandro Senior Community Center,  13909 East 14th St. Remember to wear red or pink. Ramana Vieira to Play at St. John’s Hall

Ramana Vieira and her band will perform at the I.D.E.S. St. John Valentine’s Dinner on Saturday, Feb. 16, from 6 to 9 p.m. at St. John Hall, 1670 Orchard Ave. in San Leandro. Ramana is a professional Fado singer and resident of San Leandro, who’s relationship with Fado lies deep in her family history from Madeira Island, Portugal. Ramana will be joined by Stephen LaPorta on percussion, Alberto Rameriz on bass, Michael Mcmorrow on guitarra and 12-string classical guitar and Laura Boytz on cello. Kelly Park Trio

Ancestral Memories Quilt Exhibit

An exhibit of quilts by the African American Quilt Guild of Oakland is on display at the San Leandro Main Library, 300 Estudillo Ave. through the end of February. The “Ancestral Memories” exhibit honors the memory of the quilters families and heritage and is part of the library’s 2013 Big Read program.
