A man suspected of assaulting a San Leandro police officer was arrested in Hawyard last week.

On Feb. 20, Soloman Espinoza, a 22-year-old Union City man, was taken in to custody for the crime, which occurred on Feb. 14, according to Lt. Randy Brandt of the San Leandro police.

The suspect was being arrested after trying to flee the scene of a traffic violation in the parking lot of the Nimitz Motel.

He and the arresting officer fought and the suspect pushed the officer and grabbed for his gun before eventually getting away with one hand cuffed. Other local police agencies had the suspect’s name and photo and Hayward cops eventually got him. Espinoza’s bail has been set at $220,000 and he is set for arraignment this week.
